A relaxing fishing session fishing from the beach.
Fishing the flood of a spring tide with light fishing tackle using rag worm and sprats for bait.
No talking on this one just fishing and enjoying the sights and sounds of the beach whilst catching a few fish on my local beach.

You can park on river drive, next to South Shields sailing club, which is right next to here or the carpark next to the little haven hotel but its a bit further to walk from there.

@@fishingintheukgarywood Thank you very much, it gives me a couple of options to start with. I intend to fish the tidal water to learn my craft and maybe head to the piers and walkways as I get experience. I've fished the rivers for 55 years, so it's a case of transfering my knowledge to the saly water. Thank you. Alan.

Hi, been looking at fishing South shield pier, have a friend who lives there, just a quick question if you don't mind, is it better fishing on the estuary side or the beach side? Thanks.

    • @fishingintheukgarywood

Hi, it's usually better fishing on the beach side. The pier is still closed for repairs at the min. I'm not sure if it will be back open over the summer. The only place you can fish the pier at the min is the first part from the brigade hut up to the locked gate into the estuary side.

A spinning rod and fixed spool reel that can cast up to 60g if your looking to catch them for sport. A bigger rod and fixed spool reel if you plan on using mackerel feathers.

Try the razorclaw silver minnows they work well for pollock and colefish that should be about the piers and rocks when the sea is settled. There's also bass and flatfish about on the beaches at this time of year but mainly taken on bait.

Yes, they look quite similar, but they have a couple of differences. The lateral lines are different. The coleys have a straight line and pollock has a curved one, and a pollack usually has a prominent protruding lower jaw.
